Malegra 100 is an oral pharmaceutical drug that is meant to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It consists of 100 mg of the active ingredient sildenafil citrate. This drug inhibits a specific enzyme that weakens the erection. The release of this enzyme is natural and is required to bring the penis back to the resting stage. However, in some individuals, this enzyme is released prematurely, which makes them unable to sustain an erection for a regular amount of time. Malegra 100 mg provides a strong dose of sildenafil citrate, which effectively treats the ED problem in human males.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
Erectile dysfunction is the inability of an individual to mount an erection or sustain one for a required amount of time. ED can be caused due to several factors, such as psychogenic, vasculogenic, neurogenic, and mixed causes. Under this condition, there is inadequate blood flow to the penile muscle tissue, which is the root cause of the problem. Malegra 100 mg mitigates this issue by enhancing the blood flow to the penis, thus mounting a substantial erection. For ED, this medication is taken on the basis of requirement, about 30-60 minutes before the intended sexual activity.
Post-Prostatectomy Erectile Dysfunction (PPED)
PPED occurs as a result of a surgical intervention intended to remove the prostate gland. This procedure mainly follows the radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. During the surgery (even with a nerve-sparing protocol), the nerves can be stretched, injured, or lose sensory function. The cavernous nerves (parasympathetic) are one of the most affected nerves due to this surgery. This leads to lower nitric oxide (NO) release in the penis. As a result, individuals undergoing prostate removal surgery are typically unable to sustain an erection. Malegra 100 mg is used to mitigate these problems when lower doses of sildenafil citrate fail to produce any substantial results.

Malegra 100mg contains 100 mg of the drug sildenafil citrate, which is a selective phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor. This medication does not directly cause an erection, but helps sustain the natural reaction after an external sexual stimulus.
Under normal circumstances, after a sexual stimulation, a number of biochemical chain reactions take place in the penis. The parasympathetic nerves in the area release a chemical called nitric oxide (NO). The NO triggers the release of the enzyme guanylate cyclase. Guanylate cyclase converts the local GTP molecules into cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This chemical is central to the process of erection formation in human males.
cGMP causes vasodilation (dilation of the blood vessels) by facilitating the relaxation of smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum (erectile tissue) in the penis. As a result, an increased amount of blood can enter the tissues through the dilated blood vessels, making the area rigid.
Normally, after a period of time, the PDE-5 enzyme is released, which acts on the cGMPs. The enzyme breaks down the cGMP molecules, thus reducing their function. As a result, the blood flow to the tissue is reduced, and the blood vessels return to their normal size. Finally, the PDE-5 enzyme causes the erection to weaken and return to its resting state.
The sildenafil citrate in Malegra 100 mg inhibits the PDE-5 enzyme. This causes a substantial amount of cGMPs to be present in the penile erectile tissue. The blood flow remains in it for a sustained time, and the erection is maintained.
Malegra 100 mg is consumed 30-60 minutes before the sexual activity, and it has a half-life of 305 hours. This means that the effect of this drug lasts for 3-5 hours, post which the body returns to its normal state.

When to Seek Immediate Medical Attention
1.Does Malegra 100 mg increase the libido (sexual desire)?
No. Malegra 100 mg acts on sustaining a natural erection. It does not mount a response standalone or increase sexual desire.
2.Can Malegra 100 mg be consumed on a daily basis?
No. Malegra 100 mg is not intended for recreational use or to be consumed daily. In ED, this drug must only be consumed on an on-demand basis. Generally, 100 mg is on the higher spectrum of the dosing range; hence, if daily use is intended, a smaller dose should be used. This consumption must be approved by a healthcare provider.
3.How long does Malegra 100 mg stay in the body?
Malegra 100 mg has a half-life of 3-5 hours, which is the time for which the physiological effects last. The metabolic components of the drug remain for a longer time in the body (6-8 hours), after which these remains are flushed out.
4.Is Malegra 100 mg safe to be consumed for a long time?
There are no reported safety concerns associated with the long-term use of sildenafil citrate (100 mg). However, this consumption must be under medical supervision, and there must be regular monitoring of blood pressure and cardiovascular parameters.
