Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Erectile dysfunction is the inability of an individual to mount an erection or sustain one for a required amount of time. ED can be caused due to several factors, such as psychogenic, vasculogenic, neurogenic, and mixed causes. Under this condition, there is inadequate blood flow to the penile muscle tissue, which is the root cause of the problem. Malegra 100 mg mitigates this issue by enhancing the blood flow to the penis, thus mounting a substantial erection. Post-Prostatectomy Erectile Dysfunction (PPED)

Dosage Information

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

• Recommended dose: 50 mg taken orally 30–60 minutes before sexual activity
• Maximum limit: 100 mg once daily
• Important clinical information: Based on the observed outcomes, the dosage may be increased to 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg.

Psychogenic Erectile Dysfunction

• Recommended dose: 50 mg before sexual activity

• Important clinical information: This is not a standalone cure for psychogenic ED. For a complete treatment, psychological counseling/medication might be required.

Diabetes-Associated Erectile Dysfunction

How Malegra 100mg Works

Malegra 100mg contains 100 mg of the drug sildenafil citrate, which is a selective phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor. This medication does not directly cause an erection, but helps sustain the natural reaction after an external sexual stimulus.

Under normal circumstances, after a sexual stimulation, a number of biochemical chain reactions take place in the penis. The parasympathetic nerves in the area release a chemical called nitric oxide (NO). The NO triggers the release of the enzyme guanylate cyclase. Guanylate cyclase converts the local GTP molecules into cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This chemical is central to the process of erection formation in human males.

cGMP causes vasodilation (dilation of the blood vessels) by facilitating the relaxation of smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum (erectile tissue) in the penis. As a result, an increased amount of blood can enter the tissues through the dilated blood vessels, making the area rigid.

Normally, after a period of time, the PDE-5 enzyme is released, which acts on the cGMPs. The enzyme breaks down the cGMP molecules, thus reducing their function. As a result, the blood flow to the tissue is reduced, and the blood vessels return to their normal size. Finally, the PDE-5 enzyme causes the erection to weaken and return to its resting state.

The sildenafil citrate in Malegra 100 mg inhibits the PDE-5 enzyme. This causes a substantial amount of cGMPs to be present in the penile erectile tissue. The blood flow remains in it for a sustained time, and the erection is maintained.

Malegra 100 mg is consumed 30-60 minutes before the sexual activity, and it has a half-life of 305 hours. This means that the effect of this drug lasts for 3-5 hours, post which the body returns to its normal state.

• Apart from these, Malegra is also contraindicated with CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, erythromycin, and ritonavir. Hence, it must not be consumed along with these drugs.
• This drug must be used cautiously by individuals with hepatic, renal, neurological, or hematologic impairments.
